There's a Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. And that is not a typo. It's pronounced "SHOO-guh" with a Southern drawl and it's just off Sugar Creek Road. I could not say this church's name today without giggling, which is not a good thing in my line of work.
After further investigation, I discovered they actually replaced the "r" with a "w" on purpose back in the day. And remarkably, it has something to do with Scottish settlers here at the time. That's certainly not the ethnicity I would have guessed. Read for yourself here.
