Follow the Yellow Mush Road

The streets are paved in gold this morning. Big winds knocked all the leaves from the trees last night and rain turned them to a monochrome amber mush that smells like pumpkin guts.

It's pretty to look at, but a real mess. Which I didn't fully grasp until I went out for a long walk and found my ankles covered in Fall slime. The learning curve in adapting to a Southern climate is much steeper than I expected for a girl from the desert.
