Then comes this dreadful news: Two women in a Honda cut off a cement truck on the freeway. The truck can't slow down fast enough and plows into the car; then starts to dump cement onto the wreck. It takes 20 rescuers with shovels to dig the women out. They died. Never, ever cut off a cement truck.
And finally this. A postal worker in a town a few hours away has been doing some serious slacking. A nosy meter-reader alerted officials when he saw piles of undelivered mail on the guy's deck. I just wonder what was so important the mailman opted out of a big part of his delivery route each day. Maybe he just got tired of making that last loop around the block and preferred to stop at the grocery store for some candy. That's why my younger sisters started tossing the last of their newspapers in the dumpster. Granted, it was the free nickel paper in town, so they probably figured nobody would miss it. And those papers were awfully heavy in those grimy sacks slung over their tiny shoulders. And with the money they were earning on the daily route, they could buy an awful lot of candy. They were smarter than the mailman though, cause the never got caught.
Incidentally, right now is the perfect time to start claiming you sent me a killer care package in the mail, since you've got the perfect alibi when it doesn't arrive.
And finally, in local bargain news. I went to the thrift store looking for a 60s style macrame plant hanger, which I didn't find. But I got these fabulous vintage playing card sets that still have the scent of cigarettes and peanuts from that final bridge game before their owner died and the girls stopped getting together afternoons at two.
