Our book group came to my place this week. We were discussing "Saving CeeCee Honeycutt" which takes place in the South so I did my best to put a southern spin on the snacks. Pecan bars (which I like better than pie because you get more of the chunky stuff and less of the eggy-filling. Plus, I like to add chocolate and butterscotch chips so they're more like candy bars than cookies.) I also made some drop biscuits that I doctored up with extra sugar and cinnamon chips. They were a hit. The oranges were mostly just for show. Who would eat an orange when you can have a buttery biscuit and pecan bars? I also served lemonade and herbal tea. It was pretty much the extent of my hosting skills.
My grandpa sees the food on this blog and wonders why I bother cooking for one when there must surely be restaurants and cafes nearby. For one thing, I like to multi-task while I eat, so sitting in a restaurant waiting for my food to be cooked and then staring at the table while I eat it is really boring. And another thing - cooking for one is fun because I can be as adventurous and experimental as I want without worrying that anyone else will have to eat it. The trouble I typically face is when I DO cook for others and I realize that I have no tried-and-true recipes to fall back on because I'm always changing them around or looking for new ones.

I don't wonder why you bother cooking--I know it is because you can't possibly find the combinations you create ANYWHERE else!! Miss you so much!
It is absolutely lovely!!! Share the sweet bisquick recipe with me if you will! Thanks.
